What is a PDA?
By Julia Hall
Are you an enthusiastic professional looking to improve job proficiency and output?
Then a PDA may be of interest. What is a PDA and its functionality? A PDA, as it
is commonly known, is a ‘personal digital assistant’, and the name pretty well describes
what it will do for you. The technology and options used in PDAs are designed to
enable more quality work output regardless of the tasks.
If you are thinking about purchasing a PDA, you might want to consider exactly how
the gadget could help you get more work done in less time with little effort on
your part. PDAs are multi-functional and are currently manufactured by several companies.
Palm One Corporation, Sony, Toshiba, Casio, Compaq, and Hewlett Packard manufacture
PDAs, but regardless of which brand you choose, there are common features and elements
found in each. Memory capacity is one of the most important elements of any PDA.
Memory capacities are much better and greater now than those found in older pocket
personal computer models. The increased memory capacity enables more programs to
be run at the same time without damaging or degrading the performance of the PDA.
Software programs require much memory so it would be a good idea to begin with no
less than 32 MB of installed memory. PDA memory capacities can be expanded should
the need present at a later time.
Processor strength is important, and the chips on the market today are much faster
and better than those made even a couple of years ago. Quick processors mean smoother
functioning PDAs and assure continual operation regardless of the number of programs
opened. Begin with a 624 MHz processor if possible, with a minimum being 312 MHz.
Please note that a 312 MHz will serve one adequately if finances are a concern.
People on the go are concerned about the battery life of their gadgets. This is
an important point to address. Choose a PDA with a long battery life but always
have a spare battery handy in addition to a good battery charger. Batteries are
improving with longer lives, and lithium ion PDA batteries are being used more and
more. They are manufactured with a new technology that gives them a longer life
and are much lighter in weight. This makes them ideal for active professionals to
use with their personal digital assistants. They are more expensive than the nickel
cadmium batteries but the difference in life and performance is well worth the added
expense.
Check out the specifications of all PDAs from reliable and dependable manufacturers,
and then choose the one that best fits your needs. Just be sure to choose the one
model that possesses all the specifications you need.
